APGA vows to resist rigging of February 6 Anambra guber poll

NATIONAL chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh, Friday, warned those planning to rig the February 6 governorship election in Anambra State to drop the idea saying the party would resist any attempt by any contestant or political party to deny the people of the state their right to elect a governor of their choice.

Umeh, who said that APGA was confident of getting a second term mandate in Anambra State having performed very well in the last four years, noted that the people of the state have continued to demonstrate overwhelming support for the APGA candidate, Governor Peter Obi, as evidenced during the rallies already conducted in parts of the state.

He spoke at Abagana, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State during the conferment on him of a chieftaincy title of Dike Anagbalizu by the traditional ruler of the town, Obi Mbamalu Okeke, at his 11th Iguaro and Ofala festival which was attended by eminent personalities including Obi.

The APGA chairman said: “We shall sing the victory song again on February 6. You have been watching our campaigns. APGA is the only party that is presently campaigning in Anambra State. At every rally people are trooping out in astounding numbers in solidarity to the party and this has given us the confidence that the people are with us. So we are very hopeful that we are going to win the election.

So I want to use this opportunity to warn all those people who are pretending that they want to become governor of Anambra State in 2010, I say they are pretending because people are not with them. What we are saying is that they must allow the people of Anambra State to choose the governor who will serve them. Any attempt to rig the election next year will spell doom to those who will initiate it in Anambra State.

“We are going to mobilize our people, you can see all the Igwes (traditional rulers) and town union leaders are with us because we are consulting with them to serving our people.  So in the coming election let them (contestants) not deceive themselves with propaganda, this is the party accepted by the people based on concrete achievements that are verifiable. We don’t do propaganda.”

Umeh said APGA was fully prepared for the election, advising the electorate not to allow political parties and candidates that have nothing to offer in terms of good governance to take them for a ride.

In his speech at the occasion, Obi thanked the people of Abagana community for their support to his government and promised that his government would continue to strive towards the development of all communities in line with his campaign promises.
