ABEOKUTA—AS specula become rife that aggrieved members of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Ogun State, led by Aremo Segun Osoba, may dump the party for the Social Democratic Party, SDP, the leadership of SDP in the state, has described the former governor as a level-headed politician who will add value to any party.
The party, recently resuscitated in Abeokuta, also said the APC does not know the political worth of the former governor, noting, “The SDP knows the worth of Aremo Osoba, hence, the door of the party is open to him and his teeming loyalists anytime they decide to be part of the party.”
Chairman of the party in the state, Pekun Awobona, in an interview with Vanguard, insisted that the SDP was not a new party to Aremo Osoba as he had been elected governor of the state under the party.
There have been series of reports on the perceived planned defection of Chief Osoba and his loyalists from the APC to the SDP as a result of alleged injustice done to them.
While reacting to the reports on the alleged planned defection of Osoba’s faction to SDP, Awobona claimed there had been a working relationship between the SDP, Osoba and his people, saying “If Chief Osoba and his group decide to be part of SDP, of course, they are welcome. He is my boss. We have a working relationship. He is one of the top leaders in politics and he is a level-headed person in terms of performance and politics.
”His being part of us is a welcome idea. Chief Osoba and his group are part of us. He had contested under the party. They (APC) don’t know his value but we know his value. We want him in our party. There is a working relationship between us, it is already in the public domain.”
