IBADAN—RESIDENTS of Apete in Oyo state, who suffered both human and material losses from recent flood disaster yesterday expressed their displeasure over delayed completion of the bridge linking the densely-populated area to Ibadan metropolis.
This came as relatives of the recent victims dismissed the claim by the state government that there was no casualty at Apete.
Mr. Taoreed Jimoh, son of one of the dead victims, said his father was one of the victims and was buried at the riverside.
According to Taoreed, he would not blame anybody for his father’s death, but that God allowed it.
“We became worried that Saturday when our dad did not come home. We looked for him throughout Sunday but we could not find him. The following Monday, we discovered his corpse down there and we buried him immediately because it was swollen up”.
He said this during the visit of Senator Olufemi Lanlehin to the area yesterday.
Most residents who spoke with Vanguard complained that the state government had no excuse for delaying the project
Though, another make-shift bridge has been constructed, they lamented that it was another death trap because of the narrow passage left for the river.
