Gunmen attack police station in Kano

KANO – The peace of ancient town of Sumaila  56km south of Kano was shattered Wednesday night when gunmen attacked the town Divisional Police Division.

Unconfirmed report ssaid that two police men were critically injured in an encounter that lasted 45 minutes before the attack was repelled .

Eyewitness account told Vanguard that at about 7.30pm the heavily armed hoodlums threw the sleepy council headquarters into panic with sporadic gunshot targeted at the police facility.

The account who does not want his name on print disclosed that “it was sheer gallantry on the part of the security agents that save the day.

The eyewitness further revealed that the sporadic gunshot triggered pandemonium and total confusion, stressing that “the event forced the villagers to prematurely retire to the comfort of their homes.

Confirming the attack in a telephone interview, the Police Public Relation Officer, Kano police Command, ASP Magaji Musa Majia told Vanguard that the attack was repelled.

Majia disclosed “yes, there was an attack on our Sumaila Division last night, but the officers on duty successfully repelled the attack, and there was no casualty on our side too”.

He disclosed that “our men are on red alert and combat ready to confront challenges, and wish to inform the general public to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation.”
