Scientists at the Nigerian Institute of Medical  Research, NIMR, yesterday said they will offer medical assistance to the over 200 Chibok schoolgirls abducted by members of Boko Haram sect after their release to wean them off the psychological effects of the incident.

The scientists, who spoke at the 2014 Children’s Day Symposium organised by the Maternal, Reproductive and Child Health Research Group of the Institute, noted that it was difficult to expressly quantify the negative impact of the violent act being experienced by the teenage girls and the unimaginable effects of the violation of their reproductive health and sexual rights.

In his submission, the Director General of NIMR, Professor Innocent Ujah, who condemned the criminal and inhuman act, described the action of the Boko Haram members as violation of the rights of other female gender.
