The Songhai Rivers Development Initiative Farm (SRSDIF) that sits on a 314-hectares of land in Ogoniland was built with eco-tourism in mind by the government of Rivers state.
The coordinator of the farms, Tammy Jaja, who disclosed this in a chat said the government is interested in keying into the domestic tourism agenda as the farms holds lots of attractions for people.
“The Farm is being developed strategically as an integrated farm that would serve as one of the State’s agricultural development initiatives as well as tourist centre.
“The Songhai Farm is modeled to serve as a centre for training, research and development of sustainable agricultural practices which combines livestock, arable farming, fisheries, snail farming and poultry with an ambiance for ecological tourism.”
Tammy Jaja added “what we are doing here is implementing an agricultural production side by side with eco-tourism. As you visit Songhai farm, you avail yourself the opportunity to see our plant, animals and our environment and how they all relate. It is purely a different environment.
“The ambiance is cosy enough to allow people all over to come here for a retreat; families, newly wedded couples, company executives on conference or research and anyone who wishes to have a quiet and relaxed time out. You will be coming here for eco-tourism. Government put this in place to encourage Agricultural production and eco-tourism.”
He disclosed that there is plan in place to have a three star hotel on the farm as the project is already in the third phase, adding that on completion that the hotel with other facilities on ground will meet the hospitality need of visitors.
