Igbo in Bauchi dethrone traditional ruler

By Suzan Edeh

Bauchi—The Eze Igbo in Bauchi State, Chief Jude Umezika, has been dethroned. The Igbo leader was removed following a unanimous vote of no confidence passed on him at a meeting held in Bauchi yesterday.
About 16 delegates each from Igbo states of Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Abia and Enugu attended the meeting.

Among those who led the delegations from the different state chapters were Chief Matthew Osochukwu, Chief Emmanuel Nwachukwu, Nwamadu Bartholomew and the Igbo Community President-General, Paul Umesere.
All the five Igbo community patrons endorsed the decision. Reading from the communiqué of the meeting, Umesere said that the Igbos in Bauchi had finally decided to dethrone the Eze Igbo having explored all options to make peace with him for five years.
