3 children killed by rocket blamed on Taliban rebels

Kabul – Three children were killed by a rocket which hit their house in southern Afghanistan, officials said on Monday.
However the Helmand provincial governor blamed the Taliban rebels for the attack.

“The Taliban insurgents fired a rocket Sunday afternoon which landed on a house, killing three children inside a house in the Nad Ali district,’’ a statement from his office said.

In a separate incident, at least 30 sheep were killed by a bomb placed in a roadside pasture on Monday in the western province of Herat.

Provincial Police spokesman, AbdulRaouf Ahmadi, said Taliban insurgents had planted the bomb to target Afghan security forces’ vehicles.

“Fortunately, nobody was hurt in the bombing,’’ he said.
Meanwhile Taliban sources have not yet commented on the incidents.(dpa/NAN)
