Yenagoa— Bayelsa State Government has written the Nigerian Army to accord late Ijaw hero, Major Isaac Boro full military burial for his role in fighting to preserve the unity of the country during the Civil War.

Boro, whose remains were exhumed last April from the Ikoyi cemetery, Lagos by the state government after 45 years, will finally be buried on May 16 at the Heroes Park in Yenagoa, near the Ijaw House.

The late National Security Adviser, Gen Owoye Azazi, who died in a helicopter crash in December 2012 was also buried at the Heroes Park, conceived as the final resting place for heroes and legend of the state by the Seriake Dickson administration.

The state Commissioner for Culture and Ijaw National Affairs, Dr. Felix Tuodolo, spoke to newsmen in Yenagoa on the programme of events lined up for this year Boro Day celebration.

He said though the state government was yet to get a reply from the Chief of Army Staff, the letter written by the Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral John Jonah (rtd) calling for the military participation in Boro’s finally burial, underscored his sacrifice to keep Nigeria united.
