Lagos – A youth leader, Mr Emmanuel Odusegun, said on Wednesday in Lagos  that youth unemployment in Nigeria would reduce if government at all levels tackled corruption.

Odusegun, a former president of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON), St Joachim and St. Ann Catholic Church, Ijegun, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

According to him, the failure of the older generations to fight corruption has resulted in mass youth unemployment in the country.

“What I think the government should do for the youth basically is to show more concern at their official level.

“When they reduce corruption there would be more funds in circulation whereby the youths who graduate can easily start something on their own.

“For now, the youths are really feeling neglected and seriously we would say our parents did not fight for us.

“If they had stood their grounds we won’t find ourselves where we are today.

“So, I think that is what the government should basically do.’’

Miss Ifunanya Samuel, an Assistant Secretary of CYON, St. Margret Mary Alacoque, Okerube Branch,  said  that many  graduates were unemployed due to favoritism in distribution of employment opportunities.

“The government should provide employment for the youths.

“Some are graduates and they don’t even hope for job unless you know somebody in power. (NAN)
