Asaba—PROPHET Jones Erue has emerged Delta State Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, amidst bickering from some members of the party.
The election was held amidst tight security on Saturday at a church premises on the Benin-Asaba-Onitsha highway in Asaba, and progressed into the early hours of Sunday.
Vanguard gathered that at the end of counting, the interim state chairman, Prophet Erue, was declared winner after polling 825 votes to defeat his runner up, Prince Ikpama, who got 18 votes, while the other two contestants, Major Isaac Adueshi (rtd) and Chief Adolo Okotie-Eboh scored zero vote, while 89 votes were voided.
Speaking on the development, Prophet Erue, said: “The election is a good omen for the party in the state. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will definitely be in the opposition after the 2015 general elections.”
However, a chieftain of the party, Mr. Ameachi Ogbonna, described the congress as a sham, saying: “There was no congress. We did not know the venue of the congress till about 12 noon on the date of the said congress.
“We are going to exhaust all the laid down mechanisms of the party to address the injustice after which we will consider the next line of action. As far as we are concerned, there were no ward, local government and state congresses in Delta State.”
Another chieftain of the party, Olorogun Otega Emerhor, said: “No one can say there was no congress. The congress held on April 26. Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was there represented by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC and other officials to monitor and report on the congress.”
