CPC to sanction airline over passengers’ rights

By PROVIDENCE OBUH

The Consumer Protection Council CPC, yesterday, gave a 90-day deadline to Aero Contractors Company of Nigeria to review and submit its Crisis Management Manual to it, in line with the Passenger Bill of Right, PBR, or face sanction.

This deadline is as a result of reports gathered by the council on November 10, 2013, that passengers of flight AJ132 belonging to Aero, scheduled to leave Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to Lagos by 6:00pm on November 8, same year, were left stranded overnight at the airport and subjected to inconveniences and hardship.

Director-General of CPC, Mrs. Dupe Atoki, told newsmen that the said flight was delayed for 15 hours between 6:00pm and 9:00am, and that the affected passengers were not catered for during the period of delay.

This, according to her, is contrary to the provisions of PBR, which requires that passengers under such circumstance be provided with refreshments, free phone calls, among others.

Atoki said the company was informed of the allegation via a letter dated November 14.
