A middle aged woman, Aduni Akere, has told an Agege grade ‘A’ Customary Court that she wants her marriage dissolved because she could no longer stand her husband’s constant beating. She said that apart from beating her, her husband also threatened to strip her naked in public.    

Aduni, a mother of five, who dragged her husband, Mr. Idowu Okije before an Agege Grade ‘A’ Customary Court apparently over  fear that he might attack her, said the besides telling her that she would strip her, constantly threatened to kill her.

The 45 year-old woman who lives at 21, Amodu Street, Agege claimed that Idowu has become a thorn in her flesh. His threats she said has made it difficult for her to walk alone

Recounting  her alleged bitter experiences in the hands of her man, Aduni  alleged that Idowu usually punched her like a slave and in the process tore her clothes . She also said he had stripped her naked in public several times.

The petty trader told the court that she decided to pack out of the matrimonial home and also initiated the divorce suit after she became a regular visitor at the neighbourhood hospitals owing to the beatings he received from the husband.

“When the beating I received from him became unbearable for me and I became a regular patient in the nearby hospital, I moved out of my matrimonial home in 2004 and since then, I have  living with my children. He has refused to contribute to the upkeep of the children

She pleaded with the court to compel Idowu to perform his role as a father by providing for the needs of the children. She added that the eldest of the children had completed secondary school education and needed to further his education.

She alleged that   since they separated, Idowu has not   asked after the children. She prayed the court to make him pay a minimum of  N72,000 monthly for the upkeep of their children.

The husband is expected to respond to the allegations by the woman in the next adjourned date. The matter was adjourned till January 5, 2010 2009.
