Asaba—A bill seeking to grant financial autonomy to Delta State judiciary by releasing funds from the Consolidated Revenue Fund directly to it is underway.
Already, the bill titled Judiciary Financial Autonomy 2014, has passed the second reading in the state House of Assembly.

This followed the presentation of report by the House Committee on Business, Legal and Judicial Matters led by Mr. Rufus Akpodiete.

It will be recalled that there is a subsisting judgment by Justice Adeniyi Ademola, who ordered that “the Attorney General of the Federation and the states should act responsibly and promptly to avoid constitutional crisis in the country by ensuring financial autonomy for the judiciary.”

He made it clear that the end has come for the judiciary to be going cap in hand to beg the executive for funds.
