Don’t extend state of emergency, Ciroma, Kingibe, others tell Jonathan

ABUJA — FORMER Minister of Finance, Mallam Adamu Ciroma, former  Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Al-amin Dagash, Ex- Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Babagana Kingibe yesterday called on the Federal Government not to extend the the state of emergency declared in the Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states of the North East states following insurgency in these states.

According to them, as the emergency expires April 19, President Goodluck Jonathan should not extend it against the backdrop that it has failed to achieve its desired goal, just as  they stressed that there was complicity in many terror attacks in the  three  states of the North- East geo-political zone under Boko Haram insurgency.

Speaking under the aegis, Borno – Yobe People’s Forum, the elder statesmen, who listed some instances to buttress that security agents may have prior knowledge of attacks  before they happened or failed to act proactively to prevent them.

Addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, the Elders however demanded to know “who authorised the withdrawal of security personnel from the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi hours before the attack that claimed the lives of 59 innocent children.”

Reading the statement for the group, Air Vice Marshall Al-amin Dagash, who was flanked by former Minister of Agriculture, Shettima Mustapha and other political and opinion leaders from the two states, asked  why security reports from the communities on impending attacks were ignored or not promptly responded to by security personnel.
