Abuja – The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) has given the Super Falcons a third-place target at the 2014 African Women Championship (AWC) scheduled to take place in Namibia in October.

Musa Amadu, the NFA Secretary-General, said on Tuesday in Abuja that this was to enable Nigeria qualify for the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Amadu explained that, in achieving this target, the Super Falcons would resume camp next week in Abuja in preparation for their line-up of forthcoming matches.

He said the team would ahead of the AWC host the Lionesses of Cameroon in a friendly match on April 15 in Abuja.

“The Falcons are resuming camp at the end of this month, either on Sunday or Monday.

“But it is important that, apart from the April 15 friendly, we begin to prepare the girls for the final round of the AWC qualifiers, against Rwanda.

“This is because it is important we qualify for the AWC in Namibia in October.

“It is also important that the least we can get in Namibia during the AWC is third-place, for us to qualify for the World Cup in Canada in 2015,’’ Amadu said.

He said Edet Okon, the Falcons interim Head Coach would be in charge of the team while the camp lasted.

The first leg of the AWC qualifier against Rwanda will hold during the weekend of May 23 to May 25 in Kigali.

The second leg will be played on the weekend of June 6 to June 8 in Abuja.

The winner of the encounter will book a ticket to the AWC scheduled to take place in Namibia from Oct. 11 to Oct. 24.(NAN)
