Arsenal defeated Liverpool 2-1 to put to rest the 5-1 humiliation they suffered from the same opponents few days ago.

England international, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gave the Arsene Wenger tutored side an early lead in the 16 minutes, driving the ball home from inside the area to register his third goal in his last three appearances at the Emirates Stadium.

Chamberlain then turned provider shortly after the interval, pulling a ball back for Lukas Podolski after a smart one-two between himself and Mesut Ozil.

Steven Gerrard’s penalty gave Liverpool hope a minute before the hour and the visitors were aggrieved when referee Howard Webb failed to award another spot-kick after Oxlade-Chamberlain appeared to foul Luis Suarez in the area.

The result ensured that Arsenal will host Everton in the quarter finals of the competition while Manchester City will play Wigan Athletic.
