Kano Pillars face a tricky Champions League match away at AS Vita today with new coach Okey Emordi aiming for a result in Kinshasa.

Former Rangers coach Emordi only took charge of Pillars training a week ago, but he said he is confident his new team will get a result in DR Congo.

“We are not new to continental football and that experience is what we are taking to Congo and hopefully we will come back with a good result,” said Emordi, who led Enyimba to win the 2004 Champions League. “AS Vita are a good side, but they are not better than Kano Pillars. We expect a good match from them, but we will come back with our heads held high.” AS Vita are experienced international campaigners having won the African Champions Cup in 1973 and this will be their sixth appearance in the revamped Champions League.

The Nigeria champions will be without CHAN Eagles star Shehu Abdullahi, who did not get a visa to DRC, but Rabiu Ali and Umar Zango have rejoined the team after their exploits at CHAN.  Star striker Gambo Mohammed has also returned from injury which ruled him out of CHAN, while Kabiru Umar has been included on the squad to Kinshasa after undergoing trials with Egyptian club Arab Contractors recently. It is expected to rain on match day, which could adversely affect the passing game of Pillars.
