Akwa Ibom State Government has raised alarm that some politicians were out to blackmail the state governor and the Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum, PDPGF, Chief Godswill Akpabio.
It urged the general public to be wary of the contemptible politicking of such persons, which has made them resort to smear campaigns ahead of the 2015 governorship election in the state.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr Aniekan Umanah, in a statement, said some politicians appeared to have declared war on Governor Akpabio, since the governor insisted that the governorship seat should go to Eket senatorial district.
Umanah said that they had masterminded several invidious messages through different avenues, such as the mass media and the internet, to rubbish the governor.
