800 teachers to benefit from Nasarawa special training programme

Lafia—The Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, said more than 800 science and mathematics teachers in the state would benefit from a special training programme, this year.
The programme was part of the bilateral agreement between Nigeria and Japan.
Malam Salisu Isah, the Director of Quality Assurance of the board said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, yesterday, in Lafia.

The director said under the agreement, some of the teachers would be trained as facilitators, who would in turn train other teachers in the state on modern and easier methods of teaching the subjects.
“Thirteen of the mathematics and science teachers are currently attending a training programme at the National Teachers Institute in Kaduna.
“They will in turn come back to the state after the training to train 800 mathematics and science education teachers on the programme

“The programme was designed to improve on the teaching and learning of mathematics and science education.
“It is to equip the teachers with enhanced knowledge and skills which will impact on the pupils and students positively in their grasp of the subjects.
“That is why the federal government and Japan entered into partnership to enhance the standard of science and mathematics education in the country,” he said.

The director urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the programme to “equip themselves with modern method of teaching mathematics and science education”, so as to make it easier for students to understand.
Isah also urged parents to give priority to girl-child education.
