LAGOS — Two men, Tokunbo Martins, 40, and Olumide Ayobami, 39, have been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s court for allegedly obtaining N16.5 million under false pretences.
The defendants, who were docked before Magistrate Eniola Fabamwo reside at Mushin area of Lagos.They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
The police prosecutor, ASP Barth Nwaokoye, told the court that the defendants obtained the said sum, from one Alhaji Abdulmumuni Yakubu on the pretext of supplying petroleum products to him.
Nwaokoye said the defendants and others at large committed the alleged offence on October 29, 2013 at Idi Araba area in Mushin, Lagos.
According to him, the offence committed is contrary to Sections 285 and 312(1) (a) (3) and punishable under section 323 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them by the police.
Magistrate Fabamwo granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to March 3, 3014.
