KANO — Police authority in Kano has confirmed that three persons died while three others were injured when unknown gunmen attacked the country home of Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, Tuesday night.
The police also confirmed that Musa Kwankwaso, father of the Kano State governor, who was in the mosque during the attack, escaped unhurt.
In a statement,the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Musa Majia, Majia said the incident occurred about 7.30 pm when Muslim faithful were observing the late evening congregational prayers.
According to the statement, “The identity, motive and target of the assailant is not yet established but investigation has already commenced to unravel to those behind the attack.”
The attack, that disrupted the serenity of Kwankwaso ancestral home, 28 kilometres south of Kano city, also forced the locals to flee their homes in droves for safety before arrival of troops.
Majia revealed that the gunmen had during the prayers opened fire on worshippers before the police dislodged them, stressing that the police stopped them from accessing the mosque.
Musa Kwankwaso is the District head of Kwankwaso village.
