Experts have called on Volunteer Teachers to act as agents of positive change and transformation to enable the nation to achieve its education goals. Mrs Ibukun Awosika, founder, Afterschool Graduate Development Centre (AGDC), said this in her keynote address at the Lagos Eko Secondary Education Project Volunteer Teachers Scheme Award held in Lagos recently.

She challenged them to use the opportunity as volunteer teachers to work harder in imparting useful knowledge, discipline and patriotism to the younger generation. “It is important that as volunteer teachers engaged to address the shortage of teachers especially in core subject areas such as English Language, Mathematics and the Sciences, you should be dedicated and resourceful professionals and contribute your quota to the overall vision of excellence of the present Lagos State administration. Invest time with students and work creatively for their success, act as agents of positive change and transformation for our nation”, she added.

The award, according to Ms. Ronke Azeez, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor/ Project Coordinator, Lagos Eko project is to reward and celebrate outstanding Volunteer Teachers. As the first education intervention in Lagos State with exclusive focus on ‘enhanced learning outcomes,’ this set has shown exceptional commitment and resourcefulnessin adding value and enhancing learning outcomes.
