Yenagoa — All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bayelsa State, may be heading for crisis as members of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, yesterday chided loyalists of the former governor over claims to the structure of the party in the state.

Former Gogernor Timipre Sylva’s loyalists from the defunct new Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, had named Chief Richard Kpodo and former Youth Leader of  PDP, Mr Godwin Sidi, as interim Chairman and Secretary, respectively, of the APC in the state.

Kpodo had in a report, Monday, as the acting Chairman, said the party would go ahead with the plan to open its secretariat in the state capital.

Meanwhile, three names have emerged from Sylva’s camp for the chairmanship of APC, including the former Chairman of the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state, Chief Timipa Orunemigha, the former Chairman of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, and close friend to the ex-governor, Mr. Sunday Oputu and the former Security Adviser, Chief Richard Kpodo.

The APC national officer from Bayelsa, Mr. Ebikibina Miriki and immediate past Publicity Secretary of the defunct ACN, Mr. Christopher Abarowei, in separate statements, yesterday, lambasted the Sylva loyalists, claiming that “they are arrogating to themselves the power of the zonal leadership based on selfish and parochial interests.”

Miriki warned them against acts of impunity and disrespect to party hierarchy and directive as issued by the approved interim executive committee of the party.
