A SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT ON OKPILA/AUCHI ROAD IN EDO STATE

MAIDUGURI- One person reportedly died on Monday in Borno State, when the convoy of Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State was involved in an accident.
The governor was on his way to attend the burial of late Emir of Shani, Alhaji Mohammed Mailafiya who died last week in India following a protracted illness when one of the Jeeps on his convoy lost one of its tyres and rammed into a tree.
Sources said that the driver of the ill-fated vehicle/Jeep, brown in colour lost control just some few metres to the emir’s palace before ramming into a tree opposite the Shani Generel Hospital which is now under renovation.
The dead man was said to be a close associate to the governor, while the driver sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital in Biu Local Government area for treatment
The remains of the former Emir was however, laid to rest at his palace in Shani council. The burial attracted many dignitaries, politicians and traditional rulers including the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Garbai El- Kanemi.
When contacted on phone to confirm the incident, the Special Adviser to governor Shettima on Information and Communication, Alhaji Isa Kumar Gusau said that he was not aware of the incident as he was in Abuja.
