WARRI—Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence, FJHD, has condemned the recent alleged extra-judicial killing of a commercial motorcyclist and a security contract staff with Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Ltd.
The victims, Mr. Efe Ewugharodo, aged 32, a native of Ewu, in Ughelli North Local Government Area and Mr. Felix Adjeke, aged 35, who hailed from Akperhe-Olomu, in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
FJHD, in statement by Mr Oghenejabor Ikimi, its National Coordinator, said: “We condemn the extra-judicial killing of Citizens Efe Ewugharodo, a commercial motorcyclist and Felix Adjeke, a security contract staff with the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company Ltd, aged 37 years.
“Reports from eyewitnesses interviewed by our forum indicate that on December 5, 2013 at 7:45am, some soldiers attached to 222 Battalion, Agbarha-Otor, at the Ughelli Bridge by the Ughelli main market blocked same, disallowing vehicles and motorcycles from accessing same.
“In the melee that ensured, Ewugharodo was whipped by a soldier and he fell from his motorcycle. The victim subsequently demanded to know from the said soldier why such inhuman treatment was meted out on him in the public. The above drew the attention of other soldiers, who started beating the said victim. In the process, a soldier emerged from nowhere and shot the victim twice on the chest and forehead, and the victim slumped and died on the spot.”
