Budgetary allocation to science hampering R&D – FIIRO DG

The Director General, Federal Institute of Industrial  Research (FIIRO), Dr. Gloria Elemo, said that availability of  funds has limited the scope of the institute’s research and ability to deliver effectively.

While noting that the nation needs the institute to achieve rapid industrialization, Dr. Elemo said FIIRO needs special intervention fund and support  for commercialization of over 250 Research and Development outputs developed.
The DG, who made the plea during the visit of the Senate Committee on Science and Technology led by Senator. Ajayi Borofice, said since inceptions that FIIRO has developed technologies relevant  for processing of raw materials of relative advantage in the country.

“With the little we  have had in the past, we have been able to impact positively on the national economy especially in  the areas of micro, small and medium enterprises development and employment generation.”
She added that they can do better if funding situation improves especially with regards to the achievement of the Transformation Agenda and Vision 20:2020.
