A 44 year old builder, Tony Okogwu has been sentenced by an Ogwashi-Uku High Court to seven years imprisonment without an option of fine, for raping a 16 year old secondary school girl in the bush.
He was found guilty on a two count charge of assault and rape, punishable under sections 355 and 358 of the Criminal Law Code, Cap C.21, Volume 1 Laws of Delta State, 2006.
Prosecution had told the court that, “Tony Okogwu on or about the 28th day of February, 2012 at Ogwashi-Uku within the Ogwashi-Uku Judicial Division made love to the 16 year old secondary school girl without her consent after forcefully dragging the girl, who cried helplessly, into the bush.”
The victim (names withheld) while narrating her ordeal in tears, said she was returning from an errand when the convict accosted her, grabbed her and before she knew what was happening, he bundled her into a nearby bush and raped her.
