Oil tanker sinks in Lagos waters

By GODWIN ORITSE

FOUR months after an oil tanker; MT Vanin ran aground at the Lagos anchorage, another oil tanker, MT Victory 1 has sunk at the same area as a result of reported turbulent weather, killing two crew members.

This came as downstream operators in the oil and gas sector alleged that there had been an upsurge in attacks on oil vessels at the anchorage by pirates.

Vanguard gathered that the ill-fated vessel, MT Victory 1 had been drifting for several hours and was sending Save-Our-Soul, SOS, messages to the relevant authorities including the Nigerian Navy to no avail.

The vessel was reported to have hit a rock around Lagos Bar Beach and had subsequently taken in water that eventually caused her to sink.
