PORT HARCOURT— Niger Delta Youth for Positive Change and Progress, NDYPCP, yesterday, asked President Goodluck Jonathan to quickly constitute the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, as the delay had led to a rise in criminality in the region.

NDYPCP also condemned the criminality taking place in Southern Ijaw in Bayelsa State, where they said suspected pirates were terrorising travellers on the waterways.

It added that a councilor had been killed and lives and property in Ogu and Okporo communities in Rivers State, destroyed.

The group, in a statement by its National President, Mr. Emmanuel Enisuo, said: “We have observed with dismay that with the non-constitution of NDDC board, development of the region has been moribund in the past months, thus bringing about an upsurge in criminality in the region.

“We beg Mr. President to look inward in constituting the next board of the commission. We beg him to appoint technocrats, who are staff of the commission to constitute the new board.”
