COALITION of Urhobo Youth Organization, CUYO, has warned against adoption of candidates by political parties, insisting that democracy would only be strengthened when political parties allow free and fair primaries in picking candidates for general elections.

Addressing newsmen after a meeting of the CUYO, spokesman of the group, Mr. Stephen Ohwokirerhuo described the alleged adoption of Chief Emmanuel Aguariavwodo as candidate of PDP in the October 5th 2013 Delta Central Senatorial by-election as undemocratic and capable of impacting adversely on the fortunes of the party in the State in 2015.

He said: “We should allow the people to decide who their Senator should be. This adoption will definitely hinder the progress of the party in 2015 in the State. By so doing, they are trying to extend the crisis in the party at the national level to the PDP in DeltaState which is very peaceful and united.”

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the Delta Central Senatorial District, Chief Tom Amioku said Chief Emmanuel Aguariavwodo was elected in a free and fair primaries of the party held at the Sapele Township Stadium on Tuesday.

Amioku said Agauriavwodo defeated his opponents in a wide margin, adding that; “delegates were accredited and were allowed to exercise their franchise ; newsmen were there; INEC officials were there and even the police were there.”
