UMUAHIA—ABIA State police command, yesterday, paraded one Rev Charles Ubani, a former staff of the state Board of Internal Revenue for allegedly faking the new vehicle number plates which he sold to unsuspecting motorists.

The suspect was accused of forging Abia State Government’s letter-headed papers with which he used to dupe unsuspecting members of the public.

Parading the suspect at the state police headquarters, Umuahia, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Usman Abubakar, described Ubani as a cleric with All Saints Anglican Cathedral Church, Abayi Umuocham, Aba.

He alleged that the suspect was also arrested for unlawful possession of four similar vehicle number plates.

Abubakar alleged further that the suspect specialized in faking vehicle number plates and had allegedly been issuing the same fake number plates to different people, which had been causing problems between vehicle owners and operatives of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC.

According to him, his trouble began when the number plates started fading and with FRSC operatives arresting the owners of such vehicles who in turn found out that about three vehicle owners allegedly have the same number plates.
