FCTA demolishes 110 illegal structures, seals up 202 buildings

Abuja – The FCT Administration has demolished 110 illegal structures which it says posed security threats in Gaduwa District of Abuja.

A statement issued by Muhammad Sule, the Chief Press Secretary to FCT minister Bala Mohammed quoted him as saying this at the bi-weekly FCT briefing on Monday in Abuja.

Mohammed said the exercise was carried out jointly with the Police following “ timely security intelligence report’’.

“The FCT Administration is not prepared to toy with the security of lives and property within the 8,000 square kilometres of the Federal Capital Territory,’ ‘ minister said.

He said that from March 6 to Aug. 23, the administration removed 760 structures and shanties within Mabushi, Kado, Jahi, Katampe, Kaura and Gwarinpa districts.

According to Mohammed, 363 illegal structures in the Federal Capital City have recently been marked with notices served within the period.

“Estate plots owners are now being mandated to adopt the Green Building Concept to

enhance energy efficiency and sustainable development,” the minister said.

The minister said some of the approved estates were already marketing the Green houses, particularly in Galadimawa District.

Mohammed disclosed that a total of 908 building plans were received by the FCT Development Control Department of which 837 had been approved.

“A total number of 684 setting out and stage applications were received out of which 653 have been approved during the same period,” he said.

On land use contravention, the minister stated that 202 buildings were sealed in Maitama, Wuse I, WuseII, Utako, Jabi, Wuye, Gudu, Durumi, as well as  Garki I and Garki II. (NAN)
