ABUJA—Most members of the recently registered All Progressive Congress, APC, are political merchants who see the party platform as an instrument of negotiation rather than seeking to win the 2015 Presidential election, National President, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, Alhaji Shetima Yerima, has said.
Yerima, who spoke to newsmen while examining the chances of President Goodluck Jonathan and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2015 general elections, advised Nigerians not to be carried away by the new development.
He said though some of the personalities in the APC were principled, they might be swayed by others who are mercenaries.
Yerima also stated that with the enormous powers granted to the office of the President by the current constitution, Jonathan was sure to secure another term, despite the “noise” being made by the opposition.
He said: “Two things there are that whether we like it or not, with the way the system is, whether the Nigerian people like Jonathan or not, the fact of the matter is that he will still win an election. That is just the truth.
“But I get worried when I look at Nigerians become so excited and get carried away and be deceived by the belief that there is an opposition. You and I know this opposition.
“Of course, I respect the views of people like Buhari and some of them, but the majority of them, it is either, they are agents of PDP or they are willing to build a capacity and share it, and at the end of they day, they compromise with the ruling party.
“It has happened and it will continue to happen. Most of them are merely. business guys. Yes, Buhari could be very principled and determined but what about others. You, see, that is my worry now.
