PORT HARCOURT — Deputy Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Leyii Kwanee, has charged students not to misjudge the rancour in the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF.

Addressing a delegation of  Niger Delta Students Union Government, which visited him in Port Harcourt, Kwanee said he was disturbed  how the younger generation would perceive democracy, judging by the outcome of the Governors forum’s recent election.

He feared that the negative development could corrupt and tilt the minds of youths towards the wrong impression that elections and democracy are subject to manipulation, expressing optimism that democracy will prevail despite the contradictions and misconducts of anti-democratic forces.

He appealed to the youths to continue to believe in democracy as best form of government for every country and shun any act capable of derailing free and fair elections.

He also appealed to parents not to engage in any act capable of forcing the children to imbibe negative values such as the NGF election, where 16 are strongly determined to be majority against 19 votes.

Earlier, president of the visiting student group, Mr Obada Akpomiemie, had condemned the mockery of democracy exhibited in the NGF’s  election, stressing that a youth seminar was in the offing to brainstorm on the subject and other challenges facing the nation such as election malpractices, exam malpractices, insecurity, cultism, oil theft, pipeline vandalism, human trafficking.
