Eye exercise necessary for good, clear vision – Ophthalmologist

Kaduna – A Ophthalmologist, Dr Silas Amos has advised Nigerians to exercise their eyes daily in order to sustain good and clear vision.

Amos of the Eye Unit, Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital, Kaduna, said in an interview on Tuesday that some of the eye exercises include regular blinking and tight closure of the eyes.

“Blinking regularly helps to avoid dryness and pains in the eyes. You can also roll your eyes in clock wise and anti clock wise direction.

“Look at an advertisement or some written materials from a far place and try to read them by focusing your eyes on them.”

Amos listed some conditions which may be harmful to the eyes as consuming food containing monosodium glutamate, prolonged use of cell phone and looking directly at the sun.

He said these usually burn off some tissues responsible for clear vision.

The ophthalmologist advised Nigerians to always blink and to maintain a distance of between 16 to 30 inches while watching television or using computers and cell phones.

“Most importantly, give your eyes a break after working for sometimes”, he said.

Amos also advised Nigerians on regular intake of carrots, milk, berries, grapes, lemon, spinach, fish and black currants, saying it help to correct defective eye sights. (NAN)
