The recently unveiled Cenotaph built in honour of 157 Victims of the DANA Plane crash in the densely populated Iju Ishaga area of Lagos State by the Governor Raji Fashola administration has generated positive reactions from a cross section of residents.
One Alfa Opemipo, in a chat with Saturday Vanguard, said despite the loss of lives involving well-meaning Nigerians, the tragedy had brought Iju Ishaga into the minds of many people around the world.
He further stated that the speedy construction of major roads leading to the cenotaph was commendable: “I was very happy to see tractors and men of the Lagos State public works speedily constructing the roads in order to welcome sympathisers and families of the victims both on ground and in the plane.”
A female resident who pleaded anonymity also said the construction of roads leading to the cenotaph was commendable as the women suffered more than Nigerians could imagine.
“Although when the accident occurred last year June, it brought a lot of psychological trauma to many people around the World, but we living in this vicinity suffered more than that, to the extent that traditional cleansing otherwise called ‘Oro’ was done for seven days to avert further occurrence of such national disaster that rocked the nation which kept most of us, mostly women, indoors until the traditionalist declared the community safe for movement, ” she stated.
