YOUTHS in Niger Delta, under the aegis of the Niger Delta Forum (NDF) weekend called for the probe of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) following the delay in the release of the Presidential report on the Commission.
The call, according to the youths, was as a result of alleged moves by some politicians from the oil producing areas indicted in the report to kill the report.
Speaking through its President and Publicity Secretary, Messrs Samuel Cookey and Adebambo Sedara, the group in a statement expressed concern over the delay in the execution of the report.
They alleged that “some people from the Niger Delta areas have concluded plan to rubbish the incumbent helmsmen in the NDDC by their campaign of calumny.
They asked President Umar Yar’Adua to “immediately constitutes a panel to probe the affairs of the NDDC in the last nine years.
“The committee among other things, discovered monumental discrepancies in the award and execution of contracts by the NDDC. Surprisingly, the committee was on the verge of submitting these irregularities to Mr. President when the former management used their cronies in the presidency to dissolve the committee even though its tenure was yet to lapse.
