Athletes aim high at Port Harcourt Golden League

The second leg in the series of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria/Solid Works Golden League will run its course in Port Harcourt  today, with participating athletes aiming to meet the standards set for them by the AFN technical committee.

After the fiasco in Benin City where the athletes demanded a downward review of the standards, there seems to be a new focus by those eager to improve on their performances and starting from this morning when the all comers meet is scheduled to hold, athletics officials are expecting a keen competition.

“We have put behind the Benin episode. This is a world championship year and we don’t need the AFN to tell us to improve before we move,” said a male sprinter yesterday.
