AWKA — THE disengaged Anambra State indigenes from the Abia State civil service caused a stir, yesterday, at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka during the celebration of this year’s workers’ day as they knelt at the arena raising their hands in supplication to God to come to their rescue.

Governor Peter Obi of Anambra, however, promised  that his administration was already looking into their plight with a view to absorbing them into the Anambra State civil service.

The disengaged workers, who marched as a group during the march past, wore black attire from head to toe and as they knelt in front of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, who represented Governor Obi at the ceremony, most of them shed tears.

They were followed by pensioners from Abia State who also wore black outfit.

Some of them who spoke said life had been terrible for them since their sack from Abia, adding that some of their children had to drop out of school.

Obaze, while reading his speech, said Obi was planning something good for them and urged them to be patient.

He also said about 148 workers of the state-owned radio and television stations recently disengaged would be deployed to the ministries after determining their status.
