Amaechi tasks state varsity on financial autonomy

PORT HARCOURT— Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State, has called on the management of Rivers State University of Science and Technology to evolve measures to  achieve  financial autonomy in the running of the university.

The governor,  at the silver jubilee convocation of the university, charged the granduands to remain good ambassadors of the university,  just as he  urged the management to ensure that the lecturers were periodically examined to ensure their ability to deliver quality education.

Amaechi, who gave the university the go ahead to recruit more lecturers,  said the institution should endeavour to always vote funds for research and capacity building for the lecturers.

He tasked the university authority not to hesitate to punish lecturers who fail in their jobs, stressing that his government will continue to support qualitative university education in the state.
