IN THE EYES OF READERS: Marketing’ll decide tussle between Xperia Z , iphone5, GalaxyS3

In the eyes of tech enthusiasts, Sony Mobile’s flagship smart phone the Xperia Z, Apple’s iPhone 5 and Samsungs Galaxy S3 are rivals. However, the differentiating factor in their quest to lead the market may just lie in the amount of aggressive marketing each applied.

In fact Glamtech readers have advised Sony that unless it embarks on aggressive marketing strategy particularly in Nigeria, all the noise about its new flagship smartphone, XperiaZ rivalling the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Apple’s iPhone 5 may just remain empty threat.
Although the readers agreed that the phone has the features that can actually break the jinx, they contended that it can only happen if the marketing is right.

Sony launched the phone in a grand style in Nigeria penultimate week and the review almost immediately featured on this page. however many readers who admitted their first contact with the phone was on the pages of Vanguard Glamtech said that what killed many phones that would have given the leaders a run for their market shares was hollow marketing campaign.

A reader who identified himself as John Chidobe, in his email to Glamtech said “after reading your review and seeing the features this new Sony smartphone has, there is no doubt that iPhone and Galaxy S3 have got a competitor, especially in Nigeria.

The waterproof thing is the killer. But lets face it, Sony phones used to be in this market, later the company became Sony Ericsson and now it has gone back to Sony Mobile. They can’t just be testing waters. They need to show big presence in the Nigerian market or kiss the opportunity of cutting Apple and Samsung’s market shares, goodbye. If you know them, please advise them to engage in massive and strategic marketing campaign that can entrench them now because they have the right product. That’s my take ;and please thank you for a good job always…”

Chidobe seems to be speaking the minds of many other readers who have flooded our feedback line since the phone was reviewed.
