Oyinlola promises to re-organize Golf calendar

By Richard Animam

President of the Nigerian Golf Federation, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has pointed at local golf calendar harmonization as one of the immediate objectives of his administration at the Federation.
For the board that was inaugurated on July 9, 2009, he noted that the  forthcoming President Cup may be their first major outing, but a lot has been put in place  to make the event an all-important one  for all top  golf bodies where key decisions would be taken.

According to him one of the things that would be addressed at the President Cup is the issue of having a better calendar for golf events in the country although he admits that an entirely hitch-free schedule may not be attainable but the present clashes of event can be reduced to considerable level.

“We have for instance 52 weeks in a year and my local club (MicCom Golf Club in Ada) hosts about four major events yearly, it means that we may have over fifty two major events when we decide to look at it dispassionately. So those clashes can be a sign of growth but then we need to harmonize it” he said.
The President Cup would be hosted at the prestigious Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo in Akwa Ibom from December 1 to 6, 2009.
The professionals would tee-off the event from December 1 to 4 while amateur players would take their round on the last two days of the event.
