In an interview published in a recent edition of Daily Independent newspaper, Delta State Commissioner for Information, Barr. Chike C. Ogeah, spoke on sundry national issues as well as those relating to the State. One of such issues is the decision by Barr. Festus Keyamo to run for public office.

In the said interview, Mr. Ogeah expressed the opinion that Mr. Keyamo, having distinguished himself as lawyer and defender of human rights to the admiration of Nigerians, should deepen these attributes as the country soldiers on in the democratic journey.

It is rather with profound shock that we read of the reaction of a group, the Delta Forces Union (DFU), which used unsavoury words to input uncharitable interpretations into a personal view from Mr. Ogeah.

As a lawyer himself, Mr. Ogeah appreciates the works of  Mr. Keyamo as well as his inalienable right to seek public office through election. The advice to Mr. Keyamo to shun politics was personal and borne out of the perception that having carved a niche for himself within the human rights community, he should continue to serve society better with his advocacy role.

Besides, as Commissioner for Information in Delta State where the incumbent governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, is legally no longer qualified to seek another term, the state government has no role in determining who emerges as governor in 2015. Therefore, neither Dr. Uduaghan nor his team has any business in scaring away any Deltan from contesting for the position of governor of the state or indeed, any position within the jurisdiction of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as wrongly inputted by DFU.

Mr. Ogeah’s antecedents speak for him and anytime he says something, violence or mischief of any sort should not be inputted at all.
