ILORIN— Kwara State Police Command yesterday confirmed the death of two persons (not police officers), adding that no fewer than 15 suspects have been arrested in connection with the breakdown of law and order in Ganmo community, Ifelodun local government area of the state.

It would be recalled that violent clash erupted in the town over chieftaincy issues during which the two persons were killed and several others injured.

Vanguard gathered that it was not unconnected with the agitation for the grading of the stool of Oluganna to a fourth class status.

The Oluganna and Olugamo stools are within the same Ganmo community.

It would also be recalled that two ethnic groups namely the Igbomina and Afonja descendants of Idi-Ape quarters, Ilorin are claiming ownership of the ancient town.

The State government recently announced the upliftment of Ganmo monarch, Oba Abdullahi Kolawole.

Apparently, to avert crisis, the State government reportedly postponed the presentation of staff of office to the traditional ruler because of unfavourable security reports.

Vanguard  reliably gathered that the grading of Oluganmo stool was reportedly condemned by the supporters of rival monarch, Oluganna.

It was also learnt that the celebrations by the supporters of Oba Kolawole the Oluganmo allegedly sparked off the sunday violent clash as the rival group saw it as act of provocation.

Spokesperson of the Police in the State, DSP Olufemi Fabode has confirmed that the crises which engulfed Ganmo was as a result of chieftaincy tussle in the community.

He added that the command has ordered that the Assistant Commissioner of Police, (ACP) in charge of Operations take full control of the situation.

Fabode further stressed that those arrested will soon be charge to court and would face the full wrath of the law if found guilty.

He however urged residents and community leaders to ensure peaceful co-existence in the community and shun all forms of violence that could further fuel the ugly situation.
