DOAM hails Diamond Bank over golf

Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial Foundation (DOAM) has commended Diamond Bank Plc, Nigeria’s leading commercial bank for its sponsorship of the third edition of the foundation’s charity golf tournament.

Mr. Pat Bassey, coordinator of the organising committee of the tournament gave the commendation at a cocktail/prize presentation ceremony held at the Golf Section of the Ikoyi Club 1938 in Lagos at the weekend.

The acting head of the foundation Zorochi Ugochi told our correspondent that the foundation is a charitable, humanitarian and non-governmental organisation established in 2006, in memory of late Master Daniel Ogechi Akujobi (1992-2005) who died from injuries he sustained in a fatal vehicle accident on his way back to school along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ogun State Nigeria.

He was the only son of his parents. She said this year was the third year of the tournament which started in 2011.According to her, the foundation is dedicated to the enhancement of the education and health of less privileged children and youths in Nigeria.

Since its establishment seven years ago, the foundation has offered scholarship to a number of vulnerable but intelligent children in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions.

It has also undertaken various life improving programmes including de-worming of children, mentorship, educational, nutritional and psycho-social support for more than 8,000 children and youths in the country.

The Daniel Ogechi Akujobi Memorial Foundation is equally engaged in the enhancement of primary healthcare centres in rural areas and it supports the building and equipping of the Accident & Emergency Response Centres along major highways in the federation to save the lives of accident and trauma victims.

Mrs. Ayona Trimnell, Head of Corporate Communications of Diamond Bank said the Bank’s support for the foundation was in line with its corporate social responsibility strategy and it shall continue to sponsor the foundation.
