…Seek more female membership
ROTARIAN governors, Kamoro Omotosho and Olugbemiga Olowu, have implored more women professionals to join the Rotary family as a platform to contributing their quotas to national peace, security and development.

The duo attributed the growing vibrancy of Rotary to the presence of visionary women who continuously initiate impactful community projects that have promoted societal development.

According to District Governor Omotosho and Governor-Elect Olugbemiga of the Rotary District 9110 Nigeria who spoke, penultimate weekend, at a fair organized by Women-in-Rotary in Lagos, the conspicuous disparity between clubs that had women as members and clubs that had no women, had become a cause for worry in the organisation.

“The spirit of fellowshipping is not visible in clubs whose memberships do not comprise women. Women have over the years engineered the growth of our clubs to be forward-looking organisations. They have initiated projects that have benefitted communities; projects men would ordinarily not have conceived. So, in general, their presence has helped to ensure that Rotary is resourceful in Nigeria”, they stressed.

Otunba (Mrs.)Debola Osibogun, Guest Speaker at the event, who endorsed the views of the Rotarian governors, added that women had also played a significant role in the development of the country through their performances, achievements and commitments to their chosen professions, both locally and internationally.

According to Rotarian Grace Akpabio Akpoveta, Chairman, Women-in-Rotary Committee, the idea behind the fair which displayed artistic and inspiring works by women from various Rotary clubs was to showcase the potentials of women and give an idea of what more women could do to contribute to national development, if adequately empowered.
