ACTING Governor of Cross River State, Mr. Efiok Cobham, has said that those behind the communal clash between the state and the neighbouring Amagu community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State that reportedly claimed the lives of no fewer than 11 persons from Cross River and 2,000 displaced, will not go unpunished.
Cobham, who spoke during an on-the-spot assessment of the affected community, yesterday, said government had put machinery in motion to ensure that normalcy returned to the area.
Sympathizing with the people over their losses, Cobham urged them to cooperate with law enforcement personnel drafted to the area and avoid self-help as it would only worsen the situation.
He said: “I am here to commiserate with you over the unfortunate incident that happened on Saturday. We share in your sorrow and will stand by you to ensure that we get to the root causes of the crisis.”
