THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will today in Abuja elect a new Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BOT, for the party. Those angling to occupy the PDP top seat are former Vice President Alex Ekwueme who is 80 years; former Minister of Works, Chief Tony Anenih (79); former PDP National Chairman, Dr. Ahmadu Ali (76); former Senate President Ken Nnamani (64); Publisher of Champion Newspapers, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu (70); former Minister of Petroleum, Don Etiebet 68; former PDP Deputy National Chairman, Chief Shuaibu Oyedokun, who is also above 70 years.
One of the contenders told Vanguard that the candidates met and agreed on a low-key but intense underground campaigns after which they would support whomever emerges as the winner.
Said the the high-ranking aspirant: “As you can see, all the contestants for the position of BoT are elderly people and we are not children of yesterday to be washing our dirty linens on the pages of newspapers. So we are all going to this contest after doing a well grounded job among other members of the BOT within the party.
“As elders, we believe our party has created a level playing ground for all and we will support whomever emerges as the BOT chairman today and forge ahead as a party because the party needs our support and trust as elders and founders of the party”.
