Why Bayelsa PDP withheld result of Dec 15 LG primaries

By Samuel Oyadongha

Yenagoa— Fresh facts, yesterday, emerged on why the Bayelsa State leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had failed to announce the result of the December 15, primaries conducted to elect flag bearers of the party for the March local government  polls in the state.

While most members of the state Central Working Committee of the party declined comment on the alleged shoddy conduct of the party primaries in eight councils and the crisis rocking the names listed as party flagbearers, some members of the party are blaming what they described as the undue interference of the governor in the process for the delay in the release of the list of candidates.

Though it was learnt that the crisis over the list of candidates for the elections was put on hold due to the unfortunate demise of the former National Security Adviser, late General Owoye Azazi, the non-availability of the list and the alleged illegal substitution of names had delayed take-off campaigns of some candidates.

A senior party source, who spoke anonymously, however, assured that the list of candidates was intact and dismissed claims of alleged interference by the governor for the delay in the release of the list.
